Rahane expressed his excitement over the new role: “It’s an honour to be asked to lead KKR, which has been one of the most successful franchises in IPL. I look forward to working with the squad and defending our title.”

In addition to Rahane, Venkatesh Iyer, who was acquired by KKR for a hefty INR 23.75 Crore, has been appointed Rahane’s deputy. Venkatesh has been an integral part of KKR’s success, showing leadership qualities both on and off the field. KKR’s CEO, Venky Mysore, believes that Rahane’s experience and leadership, coupled with Venkatesh’s explosive form, will help KKR defend their IPL 2025 title successfully.

This marks Rahane’s second stint with KKR, having previously been with the franchise in 2022, where his contribution was limited. However, after his stint with CSK, where he was a crucial top-order batter, Rahane returns with renewed confidence. Rahane’s past captaincy experience, including his stint with Rajasthan Royals in 2018, further bolsters his leadership credentials.

With the IPL 2025 season just around the corner, the first match will see KKR taking on RCB on March 22 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
